Ep#138: Ryan Bogdan - The BRAIN Lab
Jul 24, 2019
Ryan Bogdan is an Associate Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. He directs the BRAIN lab which studies how genetic and environmental factors shape psychopathology risk and related neural circuitry.
In today's conversation, we get really "heady" (pun intended) as we cover some of the latest news and research in the field of neuroscience. Ryan shares some insights about life stress and its association with depression, genetic links to depression with regard to how it rewires the brain, and the common comorbidity of depression with anxiety. We also get into some of the latest research that scientists like Ryan are seeing with regard to depression and reward processing in the brain as well as some of the newest studies about the possible consequences of SSRI exposure during pregnancy and how that can lead to a greater risk of adolescent depression in the children.
